Middle

It becomes harder
to lose your mind
twenty years later.

When good times,
like riptides,
come and go
in uncertain patterns.

When the heart,
now the drummer,
beats a path
to paint houses
in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Where wives and kids,
like jobs,
move away.

Because houses need paint
in Lincoln, Nebraska.
